HP Printer Error Codes and How to solve it
Share
Whether you own an inkjet or laser HP printer, below are the HP error codes which may appear when using your home or office machine.
Code | Issue and how to resolve it...
02 | An issue most commonly associated with driver or printer cable problems, turning the printer off and on should see this error message disappear. A hardware problem may be the reason the error message persists.
10 | Also known as "Supplies Memory Error", this code indicates that the machine is having difficulty with a toner cartridge chip in that it's unable to read it. Try resetting the printer initially and reinstall the toner cartridge if the problem persists. If these fail, it could be a hardware issue.
11 | Your printer is out of paper and so you should add sheets to the paper tray.
12 | If this code appears, check whether your cartridges are correctly installed and that the cover is not open.
13 | Indicating a paper jam, this code can be removed by following the guidance on the printer screen. Don't risk damaging the machine to remove a paper jam.
14 | The printer doesn't recognise your cartridges. Remove and reinstall to resolve the problem.
16 | This is a warning that your toner levels are low or empty.
20 | If a print job exceeds the memory capacity of the printer, this code will appear. Reducing the DPI or making the document simpler are just a couple of steps you can take.
21 | As above. | |
22 | The printer and your computer or having a communication problem. Try connecting via a different method and that the cable is connected at both ends.
24 | This code will appear should you send too many print jobs to the printer.
25 | As above. | |
30 | PostScript firmware errors will cause this code to appear, try printing an alternative PostScript file or reseat the PostScript SIMM.
30.1 | The hard disk drive in your printer has crashed and you should resolve this by pressing the 'select' button on your machine.
40 | A data transfer error has caused the connection between your printer and computer to break. Check your connection settings as well as all cable connections.
41 | A temporary print engine error has occurred. Simply turn the printer off at the plug for a minute before resuming your printing.
49 | Depending on your HP printer, this can be caused by a number of issues associated with the firmware. Try updating the firmware and restarting the printer, if still unresolved it may mean a hardware issue.
50.1 | There is an issue with the fuser caused by a low temperature and the fuser failing to warm up.
50.2 | There has been a warm-up failure or the period allocated for the warm-up period has timed out.
50.3 | A high temperature has caused the thermistor to become too hot.
50.4 | Potentially caused by a bad mains supply, the fuser has become faulty.
50.5 | Your printer has detected the wrong type of fuser.
50.6 | Through possible overheating, the fuser heater has cut-off.
50.7 | A problem with the fuser drive motor has occurred which has then caused a fuser pressure release mechanism failure.
50.8 | A fault with the secondary thermistor has been detected.
50.9 | There has been a high fuser temperature detected.
51 | Most often associated with older printer models, this code indicates that the tab on the bottom of a cartridge has been broken off and/or is missing. It could also be a problem with the scanner unit on your model.
52 | To be solved by an HP engineer, this fault indicates an error with the polygon mirror used during the scanning process.
54 | The sealing tape may not have been removed from your cartridge causing an error with the printer cycle.
55 | This code indicates there is a poor connection between the DC controller and the formatter. In this instance contact an HP engineer.
56 | Depending on the model of HP printer, this printer device error can be resolved in a number of ways including: making sure the paper tray is correctly installed, reinstalling the stacker, making sure you're not incorrectly printing through the duplex unit, duplex mode isn't enabled when printing envelopes, the printer configuration is correct.
57.xx | One or more of the fans on your HP printer have failed. Contact an HP engineer for assistance.
58.xx | This error code may arise as a result of an issue with an environmental sensor, memory controller, fan, power or DC controller.
59 | A motor error has occurred relating to either the main motor, fuser motor, image drum motor or ETC motor. Reseat or change the memory to resolve.
60.xx | Commonly associated with newer models, this error code indicates a problem with the motorised tray lift. Check there are no obstructions such as staples or paperclips.
61 | A defective formatter board or bad memory SIMMs has been detected. Reseating the memory chips or replacing the formatter board should resolve this.
62 | A defective formatter board or bad memory SIMMs has been detected. Reseating the memory chips or replacing the formatter board should resolve this.
63 | A defective formatter board or bad memory SIMMs has been detected. Reseating the memory chips or replacing the formatter board should resolve this.
64 | Either a defective D.C. controller, improperly fitted or bad firmware DIMMs or defective formatter board have been detected. Try turning the printer off and on or reseating the DIMMs formatter board.
65 | Either a defective D.C. controller, improperly fitted or bad firmware DIMMs or defective formatter board have been detected. Try turning the printer off and on or reseating the DIMMs formatter board.
66 | An additional paper or envelope tray has caused a problem. Check the connections between the additional units. If the problem persists, seek assistance from an engineer.
67 | Relating to a service printer error or a memory error, this code can be removed by checking your paper trays aren't damaged along with connection cables or reseating any SIMMs if necessary.
68 | A NVRAM error has occurred. This may be due to the NVRAM being full. try to reset the NVRAM and printing a configuration page.
69 | This indicates a problem with the duplex unit (the part that allows for double-sided printing). Clear any obstructions which may be causing the issue.
70 | The SIMM or cartridge is incompatible with the machine. This issue is rare.
71 | The SIMM or cartridge is incompatible with the machine. This issue is rare.
72 | A defective cartridge has been detected. Turn the printer off and on and check the cartridge has been correctly installed.
79 | An issue has been found with either an accessory, I/O card or the firmware. Update the latest firmware to try and resolve this.
80 | An issue has been found with either an accessory, I/O card or the firmware. Update the latest firmware to try and resolve this.
81 | An issue has been found with either an accessory, I/O card or the firmware. Update the latest firmware to try and resolve this.
89 | An error code identifying a PostScript ROM failure, you can resolve this by checking your PC ROM for any damage.
99 | This relates to a firmware upgrade and particularly a failure with the flash firmware. Updating to the latest firmware or replacing the flash firmware DIMM should resolve this issue. |
